frankston - the gateway to the peninsula

frankston is about 30 minutes by car from clayton. when ivy does the day shift, which starts at 8.00 a.m., she leaves the house just before 7.30 a.m. when i told her i wanted to take the train to frankston, she tried to dissuade me saying that the journey would take about one and a half hours and that frankston was not exactly an exciting place.

still, i wanted to see for myself the town where she works in. so, i took the bus to caulfield - where another monash campus is located - and there i transferred to the frankston train. the total time taken was about that duration - one and a half hours.

when i reached the end of the train line at frankston, i had another encounter with ticket inspectors. this time they were stationed at the validating machines to check that everyone had a valid ticket.

i headed for the beach. just before the beach, i passed some houses by the edge of the kananook creek. the creek drains into the sea. i walked on the sandy beach to the jetty where i met a group of primary 1 or 2 children on a fieldtrip. children are truly colour and gender blind; they came up to me and excitedly told me that they had seen starfish at the bottom of the sea.

i had lunch at the bayside shopping centre before taking the train back to clayton.
