one legged seagull @ flinders

i was waiting for the train to huntingdale at flinders street station when i saw this seagull standing on one leg near the platform. i first thought it was trying to act like a flamingo or a crane. some birds can stand on one leg for hours. some sleep while standing on one leg.

it seems that this act of standing on one leg helps birds like the crane, flamingo and other wading birds to minimise heat loss. seagulls do that too.

but this seagull had no choice; it really has only one leg. when it took off and flew to rest on some overhead wire, i did not see any tucked away leg appearing.
